The highlight of the conference was an address made by President Vladimir Putin at the beginning of the first plenary session. The President spoke about international matters of vital importance to Russia, praised Russia’s foreign policy achievements and outlined the new priorities for the foreign policy department. The main priority is to create favourable conditions for the country’s breakthrough development. This goal can only be achieved through broader international cooperation in all spheres and reliance on the recognised principles that have been set out in Russia’s Foreign Policy Concept, namely, sustainability, realism, pragmatism, multivector development as well as mutual respect for interests.
Members of the Presidential Executive Office and the Government, both houses of the Federal Assembly (parliament), ministries and departments concerned with international cooperation, the research and expert communities, together with business people attended the in-depth discussion of the key priorities of the Russian diplomatic service aimed at the consistent implementation of the country’s foreign policy.
Those taking part at the plenary meetings and themed discussions held during the conference addressed practical aspects of the Foreign Ministry operations, including cooperation with foreign states and integration associations, economic cooperation, resistance to new challenges and threats, information and consular work, the strengthening of ties with compatriots abroad, as well as the resource and personnel aspects of the ministry’s performance.
