Mr Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, friends,
We are glad to see you again. You are always welcome in the Russian Federation. I am sure that your current visit with a representative delegation of the Republic of Cuba will be productive and will allow us to take our relations to a new level.
We consider it very important to help you fulfil the intensive agenda of your stay in Russia. It includes your participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, talks with Russian ministers, in particular with the energy minister, and meetings with the top managers of a half a dozen Russian companies operating in Cuba.
I would like to express once again, this time personally, my condolences over the air crash on May 18 and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
This year played an important role in our relations. Russia held its presidential election, and a change of leadership took place in Cuba. Today we could discuss ways of ensuring the continuity of our friendly strategic partnership.
As always, we are greatly interested and appreciative of our Cuban friends’ assessment of the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, which are now going through hard times. It is very important to uphold the principles of international law as regards the events taking place there.
